What is this World Coming To?

Can someone please tell me what the hell our society is becoming? The things that you see on TV today, the clothes that young kids are wearing, the language that is becoming a regular part of our accepted vocabulary, it is all decaying at a rapid pace.

Now do not for a second take me for a do-gooder or an extreme right-wing conservative, I take pride in being very much middle of the road on my views. I am just looking around all the time and thinking "what is this world coming to?" Things are becoming downright scary, and we are all at fault.

You need look no further than the Teen Choice Awards that were on earlier this week. On a show that is aimed at young teens, you had the queen of teen imagery, Miley Cyrus, in a skimpy outfit swinging around on a stripper pole. Now I enjoy watching a stripper as much as the next guy, but there is something fundamentally wrong with a society that feels it is okay for a 16 year old to act that way in from of a targeted teenage audience. But this is just the latest in young girls being exploited for money and fame. And the thing is, it is more common and ingrained into our pop culture that it seems to be less shocking anymore. I have a 16 month old daughter, and the last thing I want when she grows up is for her to think that kind of behavior is acceptable for a child.

It's also the language and content that we hear and see on TV shows these days. I remember growing up the most risque show in TV was Threes Company. These days that show wouldn't even get aired because it would be considered too corny. Today you see more and more flesh, sexual innuendo and foul language, and it is on DURING DINNER TIME! As an adult in my 30's, I curse as much as the next guy and don't mind seeing nudity. But there is a time and a place, and our society and the regulators seem to have forgotten about a little thing called TACT. Again, I am far from being a prude, I just feel there is a time and place for everything.

And the effects all come to a head when you take a walk in your local shopping mall. When you walk around, you see young girls wearing less and less. Teenagers who are following the people they see on TV, prancing around half naked because "it is the style". It seems our generation figures we didn't like being told what to do, and hated being told NO, so in turn we are allowing our kids to do what they want so that they "like us" more than we liked our parents. Well guess what? You are a parent, NOT A FRIEND! As a parent you don't always have to be liked, most important is that you are RESPECTED. We need to stop trying to be our kids' buddies and start teaching them how to be respectful and how to be respected.

Hopefully I am not the only one who feels this way, because if I am we are in for a lot more trouble in the coming years...

  2. You hit every nail on the head! I am only 26yrs old and it bothers me to see half of the things on TV that I see..EX. a well known rapper was on the BET awards and had his 10yr old daughter on stage while he performed a song that says how he wants to F*ck every girl in the world.

Keep up the blog, I will read on a daily basis :). It's great!

Well Ace, how do I adequately put this into words and try to maintain my ever increasing lack of composure and ever increasing anger and frustration. I agree with you Ace up to a point. Throughout history we've become more and more risqué and liberal in so many areas, sexuality being one aspect. The world we inhabit has constantly and consistently evolved at such an accelerated pace, and is changing at an alarming rate, but there is so much more to be alarmed about than sexual manifestation or the use of, what is referred to as unsavory language. Personally, I use, and have used these versatile and powerfully descriptive words, throughout my younger years, up to and including the present. It’s second nature for me. Let’s remember the old adage, “sticks and stones, can break my bones, but words will never hurt me”. Be that as it may, I say fu-k em if they can’t take a joke. I believe that our concerns and anger should be directed towards the direction our country and the world in general are taking. I truly believe our founding Fathers would roll over in their graves if they were to observe what our democratic and freedom inspired society has become. Americans are loosing freedoms at an alarming rate. Local, state, and federal government are the perpetrators of this insanity, and so many people just don’t realize or care that it’s happening. Possibly, because it’s being done at a regulated, almost imperceptible rate, coupled with the ever increasing pace of individual lives chasing the almighty dollar and keeping up with the Jones’s. There’s also that most important strategy that nations use to “control the masses” FEAR. We’re constantly being bombarded with this threat and that threat, hammered into our psyches by the multitude of mass media communications, sometimes I wonder more and more, just how valid these phantom threats are. Governments, including ours are extremely capable and very determined to manipulate events and their populations, to the point that if we ever knew all the truths to all the mysteries, questions, and catastrophic occurrences we would have a massive and collective heart attack. Let’s put everything in perspective folks, the economy, and overall world situation is critical, sucks big time, and is swirling down the proverbial toilet. I assure you, I could go on and on with the descriptions of negative forces that dominate our lives. The corruption in all levels of government, the corruption and deception in so many levels of big business and the banking and investment industries, the list is truly endless

    Continued.

I wonder every day, just where the human race fits in to the entire universal picture. Are we as I perceive, less than amoeba on this planet, parasitical in our rampage and ravishment of earth, constantly consuming, and polluting with our excremental wastes? Mother earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old, a tiny planet within a universe comprised of trillions of celestial bodies, and estimated to be approximately 14.5 billion years old. Our world on which we live and depend on for sustenance, has cleansed itself countless times, causing the mass extinction of so many of its inhabitants numerous times in our recorded past and proven through science and archeology. When will be our turn, as nothing is as inherently strong, powerful, or destructive as the ravishes of Mother Nature. When that time comes, nothing man made will matter whatsoever, as everything we have accomplished, invented, polluted, and generally Fu-ked up, (one of the powerfully descriptive usages of the very versatile word), will mean nothing, not even a miniscule memory in the grand scheme of things. Be that as it may, I’m getting a bit side tracked, and ahead of myself. I will tell you this Ace, before our extinction is forced upon us through natural means, our governments, industries, and businesses will want badly to control and monitor each and every facet of our individual lives. Actually, I predict that you’ll see the day that computer implant, information and monitoring chips will be instituted by our government, as with others. They will monitor and know where you are every second of the day. Peaceful privacy will become a thing of the past. I honestly believe that you will see this happen imperceptibly, possibly starting with various segments of the population and expanding until all are monitored, their lives an open book for the select, powerful few to study and manipulate. I truly hope I’ll never live to see that world. So in closing, Ace, I agree with your concerns, up to a point, but there are so many other negative concerns that are besieging us right this minute, and are destined to become staggering, overwhelming and totally suffocating to all of mankind.
Rest your mind in the scientific fact that we are all comprised of matter, which means that we are also energy. Energy never dies, just changes form. I sincerely hope that the next existence is better than this one is becoming.

  5. Dear Pissed off Big Time,

Wow, you wrote a blog of your own there in your response...lol. I agree with most that you said. Actually, sounds like you will enjoy reading my blog going forward, as I have a lot of the same concerns. But my point on this posting was not to say that this was the biggest or only issue right now, it is just one of the many. Thank you for your feedback, and I hope you continue reading going forward!

    Ace

As they say, “Ace is the place”. Rest assured Ace, I will keep reading your posts and respond accordingly. I would suppose that the purpose of such writings is to address important issues and delve deeply into ourselves and vent appropriately, or search sincerely and write about that which instills much happiness in our lives. I would state that I’m a bit older than you. The years and my experiences have soured and taken their toll on me and my deepest perceptions. Our experiences in life mold and shape our psyche and inner being, which contributes to make each and every human being truly and uniquely individual. Biologically, we’re all the same, but our minds set us apart and render each of us exclusive within the vast populations of the world. Just as we all wear a mask and display a persona for the outside world to see, we all possesses that unique inner self that we keep securely and comfortably tucked away, only to be realized and seen by those precious few closest to us. Therefore, when writing, never hesitate to delve deeply into your unique being, and approach those subjects that disturb you to the core. I’ve realized that human complacency and apathy has been the fuel that has ignited so much discord, misconceptions, and atrocities throughout our history, and has allowed them to flourish and fester. It’s so easy to fall prey to this comfortable, uncaring mode of shallow thought, but we all need to remember to be vigilant and not accept blindly that which is conveyed to us through the media and all levels of government. Ace, analyze our present local, national and international situation, and of course the scandals, not only in government, but business and banking. The list is endless. The powers that be want good, obedient lambs that do not upset the course of actions instituted nationally and internationally. In closing, Ace, be vigilant, and always talk and write from the heart with true sincerity. In closing also, there’s a saying often attributed to Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine, which states “That government governs best which governs least. There is a bit of controversy concerning the source of this quote. Thomas Jefferson/Thomas Paine, maybe, but definitely Henry David Thoreau’s, “Civil Disobedience”. Be well Ace, and think deeply.
